Do I need to believe animals are messengers for this to mean anything?
No. Whether you call it animistic wisdom, synchronicity, or simply noticing, the meaning is real either way. Belief isn't required, only your own willingness to pay attention.
A journal theme
Animistic traditions have always known the world is alive, the trees, the animals, all of it, and that animals can arrive as messengers carrying answers, sometimes a feeling of peace and comfort, sometimes a nudge to change your life. I've always been drawn to that magic, the sheer randomness of it, the tiny miracle of being in one exact place at one exact time to see a wolf, or watch an eagle soar overhead.
Not every animal encounter changes you. Most come and go unremembered. But in my own life, more often than not, the ones that stayed have arrived at pivotal moments, messengers moving between the physical world and the etheric one. Each animal below carries its own gift, its own strength, its own wisdom, and I've come to see that wisdom reflected back at myself depending on exactly where I stood in my life when it appeared.

A frightened animal shakes the fear all the way out, then walks on free. We are the only animals who do not. What the wild can teach us about releasing trauma from the body.

It's worth paying attention to. A repeating animal often reflects back a strength or a gift you need right now, in exactly the season you're standing in.
Trust the moment it happened in. If an animal arrives during something pivotal, a decision, a threshold, a hard question, that timing is rarely nothing.
