Faith Transition & Religious Trauma

A faith transition doesn't just change what you believe. It changes how you see yourself, how your family sees you, and your place in a community that once held you close. It can even unsettle where you thought you came from, where you're going, and whatever afterlife you were told to believe in. None of that happens overnight.

This is a slow deconstruction, and then just as slowly, a reconstruction, of your beliefs, your ethics, the values and spiritual truths you actually want your life to reflect. What you keep and what you set down. It's a process that keeps evolving, touching far more of you than you realize going in. What you'll find here are pieces written from inside that unraveling and rebuilding, both at once.

Questions

Faith Transition & Religious Trauma, answered.

Is it normal for my body to still react to something from my old religion, even years later?

Yes. A hymn, a phrase, a certain tone of voice can bring the old bracing right back, long after your mind has moved on. That's the body holding what the mind already left, and it's exactly what somatic work is built to meet.

Will leaving hurt my relationship with my family?

It can change it, and that's real grief worth naming. A faith transition ripples through the whole family, not just you, but it doesn't have to mean the end of connection, just a different, more honest shape of it.

Do I have to reject everything from my faith to heal?

No. You get to choose which stories come with you and which you set down. Healing isn't about rejecting everything, it's about finally getting to choose.

Is this a substitute for therapy or counseling?

No. I'm a somatic and energy practitioner and coach, not a licensed therapist. This work supports healing and growth and is not a substitute for therapy or medical care. Many of the people I sit with do both, and that's a beautiful thing.
